Townsville Integrated Health Care Precinct (TIHCP) works with patients, their loved ones, carer’s, doctors, counsellors and psychologists to provide the very best ongoing mental health care we can.
Medico-legal Assessments
A medico-legal assessment is generally requested when an independent doctor’s opinion (outside of a claimant’s treating team) is required from an insurer or other legal pathway. The psychiatric report can be used in relation to compensation for work-related stress, after a traumatic event (such as an accident), eligibility for return to work, or as evidence in civil court case.
The psychiatric assessment is used to establish a link between the trauma/stressor reported, and the psychological condition and extent of emotional impairment to the claimant.
Our Appointment Process
All patients wishing to see the psychiatrist will need a GP referral regardless of whether you are referred privately or for Medicare management purposes.
Referrals from GP’s expire after 12 months, those from specialists expire after 3 months. Please make sure your referral has your up-to-date contact information.
Fees:
The psychiatrist does have a private fee schedule which is in line with AMA rates, in most cases patients are eligible for Medicare rebate. Unfortunately private health funds do not subside the cost for outpatient psychiatric assessment
